Climate bill MP action – ensure the UK meets its targets at home
Climate change is for real. As I speak, famine is increasing; flooding is increasing, as is disease and insecurity globally because of water scarcity.

Campaign success on Emissions Reductions Targets!
In an amazing step forward, after months of campaigning, the UK government have just agreed a target for 80% emission cuts by 2050 in the climate bill. These new targets will become legislation before the end of this year. Steps like this are vital if we’re going to prevent catastrophic climate change that’s hitting the world’s poorest first and worst, even though it’s been caused by the richest countries.
However, there’s still more to do if we’re going to make this bill as effective as possible in cutting the UK’s emissions.
The climate bill currently allows emission reduction targets to be met through buying carbon credits from overseas, including developing countries, rather than cutting emissions in the UK. This would completely undermine the bill’s power to ensure the UK takes a strong lead in creating a low carbon economy.
It could even allow the UK government to push ahead with catastrophic plans for new coal power stations such as Kingsnorth to be built, whilst at the same time claiming they are meeting the targets set in the climate bill.
You can help make this vital change in the critical final moments of the bill’s progress through parliament – email your MP and ask call for a cap that requires the UK to meet at least seventy per cent of its emissions cuts domestically.
